Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) was founded in 1915 at the onset of World War I, when women across the frontiers of war called a Congress of Women to meet at the Hague “to protest against war and to suggest steps that would lead to warfare becoming an impossibility.”
WILPF, based in Geneva, Switzerland, with consultive status in the UN Economic and Social Council, is a global movement across the Americas, Africa, Europe, Asia-Pacific, South Asia and the Middle East and North Africa.
The movement envisions a world of permanent peace built on feminist foundations of freedom, justice, nonviolence, human rights and equality where all people, the planet and all other inhabitants coexist and flourish in harmony.
